Founded in 1896, the Aronimink Golf Club is one of the founding four clubs of the Philadelphia Golf Association. With an 18-hole championship course designed by Donald Ross, Aronimink consistently ranks in the Top 100 Golf Courses in the U.S. for its classic character and charm.

When Dick Naumann became General Manager in 2007, Aronimink had been an Avendra customer for two years. Even with little prior knowledge of the program, he found it very easy to work with Avendra. “The programs we have in place through Avendra help ensure we are getting the best price and service from our suppliers,” says Dick. “That, combined with ongoing support from Avendra, made my transition a lot easier.”

Renovation Assistance
While preserving its heritage, Aronimink underwent a major renovation in 2005/2006.  The club utilized Avendra Replenishment Group as part of this renovation, and realized substantial savings on the $13 million refurbishment of the clubhouse.

F&B Savings Impacts Bottom Line
Outside of the renovation, Aronimink Golf Club has used all other Avendra programs including golf agronomy and turf maintenance, pro shop, and engineering – but by far the best results have been seen in the food and beverage category.

“We were pleased to see F&B savings in the 10-15% range,” says Dick. “Even the most skeptical board members see the difference – and those savings help make a challenging year look a lot better.”

Seeing the Light
Dick has also been impressed with the service he has received as an Avendra customer. “My Avendra representative, Michael Davis, is a fantastic resource and always available whenever I need assistance.”

His lighting supplier through Avendra, Grainger, has designed an annual lighting program for the remodeled facility that has focused on energy efficiency in both fixtures and bulbs. Through the carefully scheduled deliveries in the program, the club will also be saving the staff time and frustration of constantly ordering replacement bulbs. “When you look at everything together, it comes up to a big number,” summarizes Dick.

Odds are that Avendra and the Aronimink Golf Club will continue to be a winning team. “I didn’t need a lot of convincing about Avendra,” says Dick.  “And they’ve demonstrated expertise and impact that is inarguable – it continues to be a great partnership for Aronimink.”
